Frequently asked questions

Q. How is weatherforgolf different to free sites like Accuweather?
A. Accuracy and Appearance. This website uses the Met Office’s short range predictive radar and satellite products. For example you don’t just get a symbol designating rain, you get a bespoke map showing exactly where, when and intensity of rainfall over your area. It is updated every 15 minutes throughout the day and night.
Q. Why is it more accurate?
A. It uses forecasts based on world class science from one of the foremost meteorological organisations - the Met Office. Most web sites use free information from foreign models, mainly America, but the UK model consistently performs better. Weatherfor goes one stage further by absorbing new information every 30 minutes, and constantly updating the forecast.
Q. How will I benefit?
A. Increased confidence in your weather forecast will enable better decisions to be made. From the Course Manager applying fertilizer, to the Club Manager opening and closing the course and advising visitors and societies accordingly.
Q. Will our members benefit?
A. Absolutely. They can access a version through your club website and check with the club to eradicate wasted journey’s. The system can be displayed on a screen in the professionals shop, enabling members and visitors alike to source the weather for their game, a potential bar-b-q, and plan ahead for up to five days.
Q. Will the system be reliable?
A. Yes. We have our own dedicated servers but technical applications can always go wrong. That is why we have arranged technical support in normal working hours.
Q: How is a weather forecast prepared.
A: The global weather is captured by the Met Office’s Supercomputer taking observations from all over the world, both on the surface and throughout the atmosphere. This creates a “picture” at a set time (e.g. midnight) and this is updated four times a day. The computer then produces a prediction based upon this analysis, from hours ahead to 5 days ahead, referred to as the “Main Model Run”.
